Gates 911 Tape: He Said - She Said

I waited for days to hear the 911 recording from the Gates arrest fiasco, and I was not disappointed. It was an exciting call filled with - get this - no reference to "Black" men. The caller, Lucia Whalen, categorically denied ever speaking with Sergeant Crowley. Even though Sergeant Crowley never spoke with Ms. Whalen, he included the following in his report:
"She went on to tell me that she observed what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the porch of Ware Street," the report says. "She told me that her suspicions were aroused when she observed one of the men wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry." Source CNN

The only reference to race is when Ms. Whalen is asked by the dispatcher if the men are White, Black or Hispanic. Ms. Whalen says she thinks one of the men may be "Hispanic" but she is not sure. Also, on the tape she says she saw "suitcases" not "backpacks." So where did Sergeant Crowley get the information about Black men with backpacks breaking into a house? Ms. Whalen did not give him that information because she never talked to him.

Gee, a police officer putting false or misleading information in a police report to support his actions. Imagine that!
