A Few Good (God & Country) Warriors

It’s the Inquisition, Texas style. It’s full on and scary as Hell. Complete with a map and color coded virtual push pins, the group calling themselves Repent Amarillo, is described as a militant evangelical group. The self proclaimed spiritual warriors are on a mission to force their views on every single person in the town of Amarillo, Texas and beyond. Their website is filled with military style graphics, military- type musical introduction, and the sound of gun fire. That is not a typographical error – gun fire. When the site first loads up, the trumpets sound followed by the sound of bullets. Bullet holes appear on the upper left of the page near the “Army of God” graphic. The site looks more like a paramilitary recruitment site than a Christian prayer group.
.
The group’s motto is: “We are the Special Forces of spiritual warfare, we’re looking for a few good warriors.” The organization consists of two groups: an intercessory prayer (harmless enough); and soldiers group. The soldiers group is described as “Confrontational but composed.”
.
“We will fight unto death for the cause of eternal life through Christ Jesus. We will wage a good spiritual warfare until our King calls us home. May we leave this earth desperately clinging to one more lost soul.” Pastor David H. Grisham
.
In my opinion, the activity by the Repent Amarillo group is a demonstration of the overall movement toward the right that has gained momentum since the Democrats nominated Barack Obama as their candidate for President. The movement has been gaining steam since the election as the likes of Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, and other Right Wing Reactionaries stoke the fires of race hate and fear. I have been sounding the alarm that violent rhetoric from the Right Wing Reactionaries will lead to violent acts. The Patriot movement during the 1990s resulted in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people. We now are beginning to see the fruits of their most recent labors. John Patrick Bedell drove cross country to open fire on the Pentagon, killed two officers, and then was himself killed. Joseph Andrew Stack flew a small plane into a Texas building housing the Internal Revenue Service. Scott Roeder admitted to murdering Dr. George Tiller. Richard Poplawski who murdered three Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania police officers is reported as a follower of filmmaker Alex Jones and stockpiling guns and ammunition against a perceived conspiracy by the “government” to undermine the 2nd Amendment.
.
The Southern Poverty Law Cener reports a 244% increase in Patriot Groups in 2009 alone. The ultra- Right Wing Reactionary group, The John Birch Society has seen a recent surge in membership. On the Tea Party Patriot website members frequently post threats of violence against the government. Nothing but willing to give me life. I’m demanding a government reform even if it require violence. All or nothing. They call for the public hanging of elected officials with whom they disagree. The Ku Klux Klan is still alive and picking up membership.

.
What do militia groups, Tea Party Patriots and Repent Amarillo all have in common? They all claim to be Christians, to love our Country and to love God.
.
I can do without their brand of love.
