Female Genital Mutilation in the USA?

 doctors
The American Academy of Pediatrics issued a new policy statement proposing changes to the Female Genital Mutilation Act, a law that has prohibited any form of FGM in the U.S. since 1996.
The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that doctors perform a ritual nick of girls’ genitals, so families whose cultures accept the practice female genital mutilation will not send their daughters overseas for the full genital cutting procedure.
 united states
The position of the United States has been to prohibit all forms of genital mutilation. Until now the American Academy of Pediatrics has stood with the USA government and recommended that doctors attempt to persuade parents not to mutilate their baby girls and doctors would not perform such procedures. The new recommendation may serve to legitimize a practice that is deeply rooted in female subordination and abuse. The World Health Organization condemns the practice of female genital mutilation as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. It is gender based violence discrimination that is performed on girls to control their sexuality and to facilitate their in the community. Often it used to safeguard their virginity until marriage because genital mutilation makes sexual intercourse painful. Where pain is not experienced, there is a lack of sexual stimulation and sensation thereby removing any chance that a woman can ever enjoy a pleasurable sensation from sex.  Moreover, there are serious health risks associated with genital mutilation.
oppression subordination of women
Female genital mutilation is illegal in the USA, but federal and state governments have been slow to protect girls from the practice.

  1. Read the same story in the Australian news not long after your blog, and for the same reasons, better to have a professional to do the mutilation. Will be a sad day if the changes are made.
