Supreme Court: Guns Banned for Those Convicted of Domestic Violence

"In a 9-0 decision, the high court said the ban extended to anyone who had pleaded guilty to at least a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence, even in cases in which there was no proof of violent acts or physical injury." Los Angeles Times
This is a great step in the right direction to help protect women and children who have been subjected to domestic violence. Civil protective orders may also prohibit an offender from possessing a gun during the term of the order. Civil protective orders help to significantly decrease incidents of domestic violence. Combined with criminal convictions for domestic violence, the protective order and the ban on gun possession by those convicted of domestic violence will further help reduce repeat incidents of domestic violence.
